Multimedia Techniques

Multimedia has enhanced our messaging in so many ways.  One of the most significant ways would being that we can now receive and send messages just about anywhere.  We also have the capability to send messages through different mediums.  For example: there’s the hand written not, there are blogs, videos, PowerPoint presentations, podcasts, etc.  We have so many ways to send messaged nowadays thanks to the advancement in technology.  The question we face now is not if we can send the message but rather how should we send the message.  Thanks to these improvements to technology, we now have the ability to send messages almost instantly to any part of the world.

I believe that certain multimedia techniques can be more effective than others based on the situation or the message that is trying to be conveyed.  I do not feel that one is necessarily better than another however, I do believe that people do have preferences.  In addition, certain techniques can be more appropriate to use than others depending on the topic.  Some examples would include:

  • Business Meeting- I believe a PowerPoint presentation would be most helpful.  This way the speaker can highlight his or her main points while also adding visual interest to the meeting.
  • How-To’s- I feel a video would be best so that the viewer can not only hear but also see examples.
  • Leisure/Interest Topics- I think that podcasts would be great for leisure learning.  This way the listener can tune in during commutes, work outs, while running errands, or just relaxing.

Of course these examples can be subject to change based on the individual audiences.

My Homage to the Pioneer Woman

The Pioneer Woman, aka Ree Drummond, is a famous blogger, photographer, and food network chef.  She is married to a cowboy and lives on a ranch.  She’s seems to be a very sweet woman with a little bit of sass!  She’s very entertaining and makes some very delicious food (check out her recipes at FoodNetwork.com).

For me, a blog needs to be organized, visually appealing and exciting, and most importantly, fun to read.  If these three things are not up to par I can guarantee you that I will not read it.  In my opinion, I think that the Pioneer woman has balanced all of that in her blog.

Penn State Addresses Recent Death of Joe Paterno

Long time Penn State football coach, Joe Paterno, passed away at age 85 due to lung cancer.

State College, Pennsylvania- Jan. 22, 2012- Joe Paterno, the longtime Penn State coach who won more games than anyone in major college football but was fired regarding a child sex abuse scandal that ruined his reputation, died Sunday at the age of 85 due to lung cancer.

On January 22, 2012 at 9:25 am, Joseph Paterno died of lung cancer at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College, Pennsylvania. Paterno was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.

Paterno, the longtime Penn State coach won more games than anyone in major college football.  Paterno built his program on the credo "Success with Honor".  He was fired regarding a child sex abuse scandal that tarnished his reputation for winning with integrity.

Paterno's son had said in November that his father had been diagnosed with a treatable form of lung cancer during a follow-up visit for a bronchial illness.  Unfortunately, it was announced by Mount Nittany Medical Center that Paterno died due to "metastatic small cell carcinoma of the lung." Metastatic indicates an illness that has spread from one part of the body to an unrelated area.

Paterno’s family released a statement Sunday morning to announce his death: "His loss leaves a void in our lives that will never be filled."  His grieving family has requested privacy in this time of sorrow.
